In the new version of GLOBALedit you can make ratings on multiple images. Use the shift or command key to select multiple images or select all by using (command + A on Mac), then click your desired rating from the top toolbar. By selecting two or more images, a 'Select All' button will appear next to the number of items selected for you to select all on a Windows machine.

Likewise, you can multi-un-select asset ratings by doing the same thing. Making edits just got a little bit easier. Visit our GLOBALedit Support Center for more workflow tips and information.

You can also select an image, click the 'Options Icon' in the top right of the preview window, and select download.

Or, select the 'Options Icon' directly on the image in Grid or List view and choose download.

In order to download multiple images you will need to first add the images to a Lightbox and then select 'Download All'. To read more about downloading images, please visit our brand new support site for more information.

We were in London this past weekend to participate in Comic Relief's amazing Sport Relief 2012. Comic Relief, a major charity based in the UK that "drive[s] positive change through the power of entertainment", produces this biennial campaign to generate massive awareness and funding for a variety of charitable causes by connecting sport, celebrity, family, and physical activity.
On Friday, we were part of the studio audience for the Sport Relief 2012 telethon broadcast on BBC. The program featured major British sport and entertainment stars and generated over £50 million. The funds will be spent by Comic Relief in both the UK and the world's poorest countries.

On Sunday, over one million people in hundreds of venues across the U.K. participated in the Sport Relief Mile, running 1, 3, or 6 miles to raise money through sponsorships. The London event, in which we participated, was hosted in front of the beautiful Buckingham Palace.

Behind the scenes, the Comic Relief photo team used GLOBALedit to upload, edit, and distribute photography to press and media outlets across the U.K.. The team graciously allowed us to film their work in action during the busy production.
Stay tuned for a Comic Relief case study video coming soon! For more information on how GLOBALedit can accelerate your event / production workflow, contact us at info@globaledit.com.

This weekend Industrial Color will be launching version 4 of GLOBALedit. We are incredibly excited to share this new installment with you, which has been over a year in the making. Our culture has always been to solve problems by creating solutions for our clients – to facilitate collaboration with teams and move assets along the production process efficiently. That is what makes GLOBALedit the industry-standard online digital workflow solution.
“We're constantly trying to improve and innovate on what we're offering through our products. When working on the version 4 redesign, we saw a great opportunity to take a step back, review feedback and build the system from the bottom up with the user's perspective at the forefront." – Albert Song, VP of Product and Technology

Here are some things to expect when we launch version 4 this weekend: GLOBALedit will have a new look and feel. When you visit www.globaledit.com you will land on our brand new website and login page.

We redesigned the user interface, streamlined workflows, and improved application usability. Now you can easily upload, download, view, and edit all in one screen. We built up tools such as Lightboxes, filtering, and search to work better for you. It'll also be easier to rate images by multi-selecting assets.
What does all this mean for you? Fewer pages to navigates means a more efficient workflow.

Now you can manage your Jobs and Lightboxes in one screen! You no longer have to manage multiple browser windows and screens. You can do all of your work in one screen now. Choose a Lightbox or Job folder from the left collections panel to view your assets and make ratings. View assets in 1-up, 2-up, grid, or the new list view as seen above.

View a large preview of an image by double-clicking or by pressing ENTER. Use the keyboard arrows or arrows in the bottom right of the screen to scroll through and keyboard shortcuts to make ratings in this mode. Images will be automatically preloaded, making viewing and editing on the web even faster.
Stay tuned for additional updates throughout this week and next as we gear up for the big launch! In the meantime, keep in touch with GLOBALedit news and updates on our Twitter page @GLOBALedit.

In anticipation for the release of GLOBALedit version 4 next weekend, we want to ask all of our iPad users to update their GLOBALedit app for iPad to the latest version before then. You can do this by visiting the App Store App on your iPad and selecting the ‘Updates’ tab at the bottom of your screen.
Once we release on Saturday, March 31st, the GLOBALedit App for iPad will not work unless you have the latest version.

Clients are using the GLOBALedit App for iPad for talent approvals. It allows you to download your galleries to your iPad and make approvals on the go. If you don’t already have the GLOBALedit App for iPad, you can download it from the App Store here.

GLOBALedit has evolved organically since the release of the 3.0 platform in June 2006, and is used today by a wide range of clients on a daily basis for their work-in progress content and creative production workflow. So where to from here? We wanted to step back and figure out how to make the system even better for our clients and users.
We set out to rethink the user interface, simplify the workflow, and improve the application experience. We wanted users to be able to maximize the tools available to them and streamline their process even further.
For the past 14 months, the GLOBALedit team has been hard at work on the new version of GLOBALedit. We redesigned the front-end with the design expertise of Area17 and rebuilt the back-end of the system to make it more beautiful on the outside and powerful on the inside. This will be a solid foundation from which to grow and continue improving and expanding.
We're really excited about the new look & feel and can't wait to get it in your hands. Industrial Color is proud to announce that GLOBALedit version 4 will launch next Saturday, March 31st. Here's a sneak peek at the new UI.

Next week we'll post what's in store for the new system. Contact us with any questions or to learn more about GLOBALedit version 4.

By 2007, Industrial Color had a full in-house development team as well as a new office in downtown Manhattan. Using version 2 as a model, the team began working on the third installation of GLOBALedit, which would bring significant advances in features as well as a streamlined user interface. The dev team continued to increase productivity over the next few years with constant feedback both internally and from clients, growing the system to be useful for a wider variety of users across multiple industries.
“We had grown in process. Version 3 was a huge leap from previous versions in terms of flexibility and usability.” – Vyacheslav Maron, Senior Software Developer
The idea behind this new revamped GLOBALedit was to put the tools into the hands of our users. The Job Manager allows clients to upload and manage their own content directly in GLOBALedit. The Asset Rights system gives managers robust controls for regulating usage and access. Increased Lightbox functionality provides all users with nimble yet powerful tools for sharing images to view and download.
We also strove to simplify the production process thru new devices, applications, and formats. Approval Galleries, both online and on the GLOBALedit App for iPad, bring the approval process directly to talent on set and on the go. Dropboxes and GEDi, our desktop uploader, make it even easier for photographers and techs to upload shoots and requested files. We added support for a wide breadth of video and camera formats, so users can apply GLOBALedit tools to all facets of their production workflow.
It's been amazing to see GLOBALedit develop into the system we see today:

Visit the blog again next week to get a sneak peek of the new GLOBALedit, release date announcing soon!

After GLOBALedit's initial launch, both digital production and client interest grew. A need emerged for a more robust system to handle the volume of images being collected daily and the number of users working online around the globe. The second installation of GLOBALedit added key features: Image Editor to preview and edit images, Metadata Editor to tag metadata on the fly, and Talent Approval modules to send and receive kills from actors and publicists. These tools still act as a core part to our users' daily workflow today.
“GLOBALedit changes with the times. It’s a product of evolution.” - Industrial Color Software Engineer, Dan Fusaro
By 2007, clients could see their photo shoots go from set to GLOBALedit, available for their teams to view from anywhere online. The design and layout of version 2 was more user-friendly and specialized for the workflows of creative production users. GLOBALedit was still reliant on managed services at this time, so drives were sent to Industrial Color for upload and online management.
Dan Fusaro was the first to join Industrial Color as a developer on GLOBALedit, focusing on UI design and image processing.. “Usability, speed, and capacity were major factors for constantly improving GLOBALedit. Developing a cohesive interface has also always been a goal,” shares Dan.
Bringing on Dan would eventually lead to an entire in-house development team to work on growing and developing GLOBALedit full-time. “We went from a HP workstation in a one room office to our current space [the AT&T building in downtown Manhattan] and a state-of-the-art tier-3 data center with backup generators and off-site data recovery,” says President and Founder, Steve Kalalian.
Below are some screens of GLOBALedit version 2:

In looking forward to the release of GLOBALedit Version 4, we took a look back at the early days of our product, our company, and the industry in general.
This sets the clock back 11 years when digital photography was just starting to become viable for commercial photography. With everyone going digital at once, there was a massive number of images being produced.
"We were all shooting digitally so we wanted to keep the workflow digital. The Internet was a tremendous opportunity to collaborate and work in real time from anywhere. That was the concept behind the first version of GLOBALedit." – Industrial Color President, Steve Kalalian
So in 2003, Steve and the Industrial Color team, along with a few developer friends, sketched out and built the first version of GLOBALedit. It provided image review and approvals from anywhere in the world as well as the ability to quickly download and share images with production teams online.
To this day, GLOBALedit continues to evolve to support the ever-changing needs of professional photo and video production teams. We work to understand how teams work and leverage technology to deliver products and features that streamline the process in an elegant way.
For a blast from the past, check out some screen shots below of the very first version of GLOBALedit.

Since the first version released in 2004, GLOBALedit has become the leading online photo and video management and approval platform for creative teams in the media, retail, publishing, and advertising industries. Numerous organizations rely on GLOBALedit daily for collaboration on their production workflow, sharing assets across the world from the moment of capture to final distribution.
Constant software updates and additions (like the GLOBALedit App for iPad) have allowed the product to grow with our clients, always driving efficiency and technology in response to our users' needs.
For the last fourteen months, the software team at Industrial Color has been hard at work on version 4 of GLOBALedit. We've redesigned our look and feel, rebuilt the underlying architecture, and made things faster, smoother, and more beautiful. In preparation for the upcoming launch, we'll be publishing a blog post series about the history of GLOBALedit and what's it's taken us to get to this point. We'll feature interviews with key players from the team, peep old versions of the software, and preview details about version 4.
We're very excited to introduce the new GLOBALedit very soon. Stay tuned for the first blog post tomorrow, where we'll take it all the way back to the beginning.

Last night, we faced off against design agency Area17 in an epic ping pong tournament. Fueled by pizza from our favorite pie shop Saluggis and beer, members of Industrial Color and Area17 went head-to-head in a single elimination bracket.

The final showdown came down to Seiji Ohashi, Industrial Color IT manager, and Kemp Attwood, partner at Area17.
The two were neck and neck right to the end, and after a triple (or quadruple?) overtime Seiji took the crown! He got to take home a nice bottle of Buffalo Trace whiskey as the prize.

Area17 is an interactive design agency located in New York City and Paris who specialized in creating modern interactive systems. Their design work on the upcoming GLOBALedit web application, the GLOBALedit App for iPad, and the GLOBALedit App for Surface has been truly beautiful and inspiring for both us and our clients.
Many thanks for all the hard work and a great game; we look forward to the next round!
